After leaving the military, David Smith, the founder of DNA General Contracting, began his career in construction in the early 1980's building houses in Texas. David started DNA General Contracting in 2007. Following are details on his background and story:

Youth:
Grew up in North Augusta, SC, the son of a local General Contractor who swore he’d never be a builder, since he spent his summers, spring breaks, and holidays working on his father’s job sites.
As a young man in North Augusta David developed a strong interest in Art, a love for “all things sports”, and a passion for scuba diving.

Bachelor of Arts - Sociology, Wofford College

Military:
Scabbard and Blade Military Honor Society, Wofford College

Commissioned as an US Army officer upon graduation from college.
Spent 3 years on Active duty in the Signal Corp stationed at Ft. Gordon, Ga.

Story:
After fulfilling his military obligation, David began his career in the construction industry working for several different builders in Texas, Maryland, and SC. It was while he was working in SC, in the early 1990’s that he met his wife who was attending the Medial College of Georgia. Upon her graduation, David and Sandi relocated to Atlanta where David went to work for a small residential builder, Torrey Homes. Over the next 5 years he was one of the team players that grew Torrey to earn the distinction of the largest builder in the state of Ga. Shortly after leaving Torrey, David was approached by a representative of the Andersen Window Corporation about a position which they needed to fill. David was eventually offered a position with the company and spent the next 8 years with the leader in the window and door industry representing Andersen Windows as territory service manager, later being promoted to SE Regional Service manager.
Always knowing that he would someday return to building, David left corporate America in Oct of 07 to start DNA General Contracting, LLC. After many months of preparation, in Dec ’07 took (and passed) the Ga Unlimited Commercial General Contractors Licensing Exam.
